The Reading Excellence Act: A Critical Analysis of Its Contributory Value and Existent Shortcomings

1      Introduction

Approaches to reading instruction constitute an incontrovertibly important issue, as importance directly stems from the fact that reading fluency is a predicator of academic survival, let alone success.  Within the context of the stated, and considering that reading is the bedrock of education, multiple studies have been conducted on the optimal reading instruction approach.  Needless to say, controversy surrounds the question of optimal approach, giving rise to what has been termed the `reading wars.’ In an effort to settle the said wars and affirm the imperatives of reading excellence, in 1997 Congress passed the Reading Excellence Act, subsequent to which a committee for the study and investigation of the components of reading excellence was formed.  Following an overview of the report’s findings, the research will overview reading instruction paradigms.

The Medical Technologist, reflection on management and era of responsibility

From the forgoing discussion, I have attempted to highlight the necessity of allowing the code of conduct for medical technologist and the call by President Barack Obama challenging us to an “era of responsibility” to modulate our actions in the laboratory setting.  Medical technologist need to be professional, responsible, motivational and also volunteer in the community in other to help create better awareness of the profession.

Personnel problem is by far one of the most complex and topical experience that both managers and employees alike are ever ready to deal with in the hospital laboratory setting and resolving the sequel scenario and attempting to bring about normalcy cannot be overemphasized. There have been situations whereby medical technologists have had the need to approach managers with the hope that their side of the issue at stake should be considered and unfortunately the environment may not necessitate for such and consequently resulting in the personnel becoming disenchanted with both management and the professionals that run it.
